 Planting System

Recent years the roof planting is promoted as a method to mitigate the urban heat island. This research focuses on how to improve air-conditioners’ energy efficiency through shading solar radiation and cooling air by plant transpiration using roof plants. This research uses the plant cultivated using hydroponic technology, which can transpire water four times of common soil-cultivated plants, to improve air-conditioners’ energy efficiency.
 The main contents of this research are,
 1) set up an experiment system using variable volume fans, which act as the fans in the outdoor unit of an air-conditioner,
 2)measure basic data about the cooling effect that roof plants can achieve,
 3) develop mathematic model for the integrated air-conditioner and roof planting system.
